 SmartLay™
The SmartLay™ system is designed to increase safety in situations where the lay vessel may no longer be in control of the pipe, or in the event of a wet buckle.
The SmartLay™ system is intended to protect the seabed portion of a pipeline under construction from accidental flooding, it can be configured to also protect the riser portion. Prevention of pipeline flooding enables quick recovery from a buckled pipe situation.
SmartLay™ is based upon our well proven tetherless SmartPlug™.
The SmartLay™ System operates automatically and independently of the lay barge
- Automatic setting
- on detection of an ambient pressure increase
- on contact with sea water
- on detection of abnormal or excessive out-of-roundness in pipe (optional)
- on detection of loss of cable tension
- Rapid setting of the plug module; three seconds or less
- Can be set and un-set up to three times
- The system can be remotely un-set if it should set unintentionally
- System vital functions can be checked through the pipe wall
- Pipeline pressure on both sides of the tool can be obtained
- The remote control antenna system is using the ROV communication protocol
The SmartLay™ system is DnV Type Approved and Certified for 300 bar differential pressure.
